With auctions closed at 8pm Pacific time on August 5th, the Birth Bills Project has raised $5,150 to support Amy and David's medical bills. Thanks to all of you who bid on auction items, donated auction items, contributed directly through PayPal or by check, and helped get the word out about the project. Your commitment and generosity has made a real difference, and stands as a testament to the strength of a community caring for its own. If you had the winning bid in an auction, you should have received an email message from the site letting you know and informing you of your payment options.

About the Birth Bills Project
The Birth Bills Project is the work of a group of friends, neighbors, business owners, and artists who have come together to support two of our own, David and Amy Nyquist, after the unexpected cancellation of their health insurance left them with nearly $12,000 in medical expenses following the birth of their second child, Samuel. We encourage you to read more about this turn of events in David and Amy's own words.
As a community, our response to this situation began with a recognition that our greatest strength is our ability to care for each other. Especially in times when the insurance and health care systems can and do fail so many of us, we cannot afford to do the same: sometimes a neighbor is a neighbor's best safety net, and sometimes a community is the best insurance.
With this recognition, we have mobilized our own talents, services, and products along with those of our friends, family, business associates and others, to create the Birth Bills Project online auction. Our goal is to raise at least $5,000 to help offset David and Amy's medical expenses, using the products, services, and original works of art given us by our generous sponsors. All proceeds from the auction will go directly to David and Amy for medical expenses: labor on the project is entirely on a volunteer basis, and all auction items have been donated at no cost.
You can give your support to the project while shopping for home décor, picking out the perfect special "something" for a gift basket, treating yourself to experiences ranging from therapeutic to adventurous, or taking home work by some of our community's most original artists.
